Tourism Industry can now learn how to market to China from their lounge room

A training program designed specifically for tourism businesses wanting to capitalise on the growing China market will be delivered online during September making it available to everyone who works in tourism regardless of where they are located.
China is now Australia’s second largest inbound market, after New Zealand, with more than 1.4 million Chinese travellers coming to our shores in the year ending June 2018. Moreover, Chinese travellers spend more while here than any other market.

The China Market Immersion Month of September will step tourism operators through what they need to do to make sure they are getting their slice of this lucrative cake.

It forms part of a new training program launched by Tourism Tribe, in August, designed specifically to help tourism businesses upskill when it comes to marketing and distribution, so they can be more competitive on the global stage.

Tourism Tribe is an online community of more than 1,600 businesses around the world and is a leader in digital technology and coaching for the tourism industry.

The China Market Immersion Month of September will include a live panel session, a live workshop and Q&A Session, and a China-ready business assessment.

Tourism Tribe’s CEO Liz Ward said they were excited about delivering this innovative online program to everyone in the industry, no matter where they are located and they were very fortunate to be able to bring to the sessions highly regarded China market expert Andrea Plawutsky from Amplify Me.

“Andrea has lived and worked in China and is a communications and marketing expert with significant experience,” Ms Ward said.

“She has had a longstanding relationship with China for more than 30 years, having first lived there in 1988, and is a Mandarin speaker. She travels regularly to China for conferences and trade shows, representing clients and destinations and remaining abreast of current trends in this rapidly changing market.

“We’ve worked with Andrea previously on training and mentoring projects and all participants have gained immensely from Andrea’s excellent workshopping techniques, her experience and passion for sharing her knowledge.”

Ms Plawutsky said it was a pleasure to be working with Tourism Tribe again and she couldn’t wait to get started with the China Market Immersion Month.

“Tourism Tribe is a leader in digital technology and coaching for the tourism industry and this program has been designed to really benefit those tourism operators wanting to cater to visitors from China,” she said.

“The market is set to grow even more – there are currently 18 cities in China with direct flights to Australia and this will increase in the coming years.

“The China market is drawn to Australia’s natural beauty, aquatic and coastal experiences and our food and wine. And they’re starting to explore further afield into our regional areas. The Chinese are also a cosmopolitan culture and enjoy things like nightlife and architecture too.”

Andrea will be joined by industry colleagues for the panel sessions including Simon Kaiyu Li, who has more than 20 years’ hands-on experience advising businesses seeking cross-cultural success in China and Australia, and Janene Rees, founder and director of Rees International and a passionate advocate for international tourism and destination development.

Asia and China are Janene’s speciality and she has spent more than 15 years travelling and working with these markets. She will share current market trends, insights and what the new China consumer currently looks like.

Dates for The China Market Immersion online sessions are as follows:

  • Panel session – Thursday, September 6, 2018, 11am AEST
  • Live Workshop + Q&A Session – Thursday, September 13, 2018, 11am – 12.15pm AEST

During the China Market Immersion Month, Tourism Tribe members can tap into the private support forums to address any issue that may not have been covered.  Tourism Tribe experts will be on standby to answer questions and share tips with participants.

China Market Immersion Month is free for Tourism Tribe members and $44 for non-members.
