Compared with a free scan

Already run a free AI checker? Good. Start there.

Free scanners are a useful first look and we build one ourselves. The first two limits below are structural and they apply to every free scanner, ours included. The last two are choices some vendors make and we do not.

01

It never asked an AI anything.

Most tools branded "AI readiness" run rule-based checks over your website and your Google data. In the ones we have pulled apart, typically one step in six involves a language model at all, and none of them put a question to ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity and read the answer. So the score describes your website. It cannot tell you whether an assistant recommends you, which is the only result that pays.

02

It scores how your site was built, not how good you are.

Free scanners read raw HTML. If your site renders its content with JavaScript, the scanner sees an empty page. We ran one popular free checker against a major Sydney operator with 6,400 reviews. It returned zero out of seventy-five for structured data and zero out of eighty for content. The data was all there. The scanner could not see it, and a small operator with 311 reviews outscored them on both. We render pages before reading them, so you are marked on your business rather than your tech stack.

03

The verdict is tuned so almost everyone fails.

When the report exists to sell the fix, the bands sit where they need to sit. In that same teardown, a 6,400-review icon and a 311-review small operator landed on the identical verdict: "Needs Improvement". Our grade bands are published and we apply them as written. A is 85 and above, B is 70 to 84, C is 55 to 69, D is 40 to 54, F is under 40. If you are doing well we say so, and we show you every check you passed.

04

The audit is the signup form.

Some free audits exist to sign you up to a monthly subscription. The one we examined assembles a pre-filled account while it scores you, picks your plan tier from your review count, and scores hardest on the exact service the company sells. Here you pay $330 once, the report is yours, and there is no plan attached to it.

Pocket Rocket checks the website slice and says exactly that. It is a genuine first look and it is honest about what it covers. It is the front door to this, not a smaller version of it.

Why this matters

Travellers now start with AI. If it does not name you, you do not get the booking.

The chain is short. A traveller asks ChatGPT or Gemini where to stay in your town. It gives them three or four names. They book from that list.

If you are not on the list, you were never in the running.

You cannot buy your way onto that list. There is no ad slot inside a recommendation. The only way in is to be easier for the AI to find, understand and trust than the operator down the road. Those are the things we check, and they are all in your control.

15%

of travel research now runs through AI tools, up from 6% in late 2023.

36%

Ordinary Google search has dropped from 51% to 36% in twelve months.

The part most reports skip

Every opportunity comes with the fix.

Our report does not just give you a score. Open any opportunity and you get four things: what we found on your business, what good looks like, a prompt you can paste into ChatGPT to fix it, and a full written guide. You get that for every opportunity, ranked with the highest-value fix at the top.

1. What we found

No prices anywhere on your site

Your tours share one page and none of them carry a price. Assistants routinely filter recommendations by budget, so when a traveller asks for something under $150 you are not in the shortlist. Six of the eleven operators in your region publish theirs.

2. What good looks like

Every experience has its own page with a price on it, either a fixed rate or a clear "from" price, so an assistant can answer a budget question with your name in it.

4. And the full guide

Where to add prices, how to handle seasonal rates and "from" pricing, and what to do if you sell through an agent at a different rate.

3. A prompt you can paste into ChatGPT

Here is the current copy from my tours page: [paste your page here]. Rewrite it as a separate page for each tour. For each one include the tour name, how long it runs, departure time and meeting point, price per adult and per child, what is included, what to bring, and the cancellation policy. Write in plain Australian English, short sentences, no marketing adjectives. Where you do not have the information, mark it [NEED] so I can fill it in.

Use it yourself, or hand it to whoever looks after your site. When you want the whole report turned into a plan, a Tourism Tribe strategist will sit down and do that with you.

Your report

Your whole business on one screen.

Your score, then every check we ran as a single map. Teal where you are strong, coral where there is an opportunity, brighter where it matters more. It is a private web page, not a PDF you lose in your downloads folder.

Below is a real assessment. The overview first, then the map with one finding opened up.

What we check, and how

Four questions decide whether you get recommended. We test all four.

Every check in our library sits under one of these, and each question carries a weight in your score. This is the whole method.

Discoverability, 35% of your score

Can I find them?

Whether an AI can reach you at all. Your Google Business Profile, your category, your structured data (the machine-readable summary of who you are and what you sell), and whether your name, address and phone agree everywhere they appear.

How we check it

We read your Google listing field by field against Google's own category list, fetch your pages the way a crawler does to see whether they return real text, parse whatever structured data you have, check your robots file for AI crawlers you have blocked by accident, and compare your contact details across every source we find.

Comprehension, 25% of your score

Do I understand them?

Whether an AI can work out what you actually sell, and describe it to a traveller. Product pages, prices, hours, what is included, parking and access, FAQs.

How we check it

We crawl your key pages and read them the way an assistant does, then test whether each answer a traveller needs is actually on the page. We also measure how much of your copy is fact and how much is adjective, because an AI can repeat "two hours, departs 7am from the marina" and cannot do anything with "stunning".

Credibility, 25% of your score

Can I trust them?

Whether you look like a safe recommendation. Review volume, rating and recency, whether you reply, and whether your signals agree with each other.

How we check it

We pull your full Google and TripAdvisor review history, including owner responses, and score volume, rating, how recent the last one is, and your reply rate. We check your ratings agree across platforms, because a gap between them reads as a risk to an assistant.

Conversion, 15% of your score

Can they act?

Whether a traveller who has been sent to you can finish the job. Availability, a booking path that works, and contact details that do something when tapped.

How we check it

We follow your booking path from the listing through to checkout on a phone as well as a desktop, test whether availability is visible without contacting you, submit your enquiry form, and check your phone number and email actually work as links.

Google AI Overviews

If something sits behind a booking widget, a login or a page that is hard to reach, we may not find it. Neither will AI.

Also included: the AI Visibility Test

Where you stand today, before you change anything.

This is your starting point, not the advice. We work out the five questions a traveller would really type when looking for a business like yours in your area, ask them live to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews, and record every answer so you can measure against it later.

You could ask one of these questions yourself in five minutes. What the answer will not tell you is which of the seventy-odd things behind it caused the result, or what to change. That is what the rest of the report does.

Named in 80% of answers, cited in only 33%. That gap is where the money goes. One tour operator we assessed was named in 93% of answers but cited in only 27%. The AI knew them perfectly well. It just sent every traveller to a booking site that takes a commission, instead of their own booking page.

The AI Visibility Test sits beside your score, never inside it. AI answers change day to day, so we keep them out of the number. Run the score twice on a business that has not changed and you get the same result both times.

Why us

3,400 health checks taught us which fixes actually pay.

Tourism Tribe has been assessing tourism operators since 2019. Thousands of businesses, across every state, through council programs, tourism bodies and directly.

That history is the product. The advice in your report is not generated on the spot. It is a library of fixes written by our digital strategists over years of doing this by hand, and the assessment matches your specific failures to the specific advice that resolves them, filled in with your real data.

We also know what average looks like, because we have measured it. Across more than 2,000 assessments the average small business scored 32.2%, and only 21.1% had an optimised Google Business Profile. When your report says you are behind, we can tell you behind what.

"An honest and raw review of my business, website and social platforms. One of the most useful programs I have been able to participate in."

Michael Aveson, Grape Explorations Australia

1770 Liquid Adventures scored around 80 on 10 May. By 7 July they were at 85. By the report you've been looking at throughout this page, they were at 95, grade A, on 22 August. Three months, roughly fifteen points, shared with permission from Janina.

What we need from you

Two fields. That is your entire job.

Your business name. Your town. No passwords, no admin access to your website, no adding us as a manager on your Google profile.

We do it this way on purpose. If you hand us your web address, we are no longer testing whether you can be found. So we start with nothing and go looking, the same way a traveller's AI does. If we have trouble finding you, that is a result worth knowing.

The guarantee

If it does not help your business, you do not pay for it.

Order the AI Health Check. Read your report. If it does not help your business, email us and we will refund you in full.

What that means in practice: if it does not show you something worth acting on, it did not help. No form, and no conditions about how much of it you implemented.

We can offer that because we have run this on hundreds of tourism businesses and we have not yet found one with nothing to fix.

Fit

Who this is for

This is for you if

  • You run a tourism, hospitality or accommodation business with paying customers and a website
  • You suspect AI is part of how people find you now, and you have no idea where you stand
  • You would rather have three things to fix this week than forty things to worry about

This is not for you if

  • You have no website and no Google Business Profile. There is nothing to assess yet. Fix that first and come back
  • You want the work done for you. This tells you exactly what to fix. If you want it done with you, look at the GEO Assessment
  • You want a general small business audit. Every check here is built for tourism

Questions

Before you order

Is this an automated report? The old Health Check was assessed by a person.

The assessment is automated. The advice is not.

Everything in your report comes from an advice library written by our digital strategists over years of running these by hand. The system finds your specific problems and matches them to the specific human-written fix, filled in with your real data. It never invents the substance of the advice.

What automation buys you is scale and consistency. Every business gets every check that applies to it, not the subset an assessor had time for. Your score is repeatable, so a re-run in six months is a genuine comparison rather than a different person’s opinion. And you get it the same day instead of next week. If you want a human in the loop, that is the GEO Assessment.

Should I just use a free AI checker instead?

Run one, by all means. The section further up this page sets out what a free scan can and cannot tell you. Our own free tool, Pocket Rocket, covers the website slice and says so, and it is a good place to start if you are not ready for this.

Do you need access to my website or my Google account?

No. We only use information that is publicly visible, which is the same information a traveller’s AI has. That is deliberate. Anything we can only see by logging in is not something an AI can see either, so it does not belong in this assessment.

What if you assess the wrong business?

We check before we score. The system compares name, location, domain and trading status, and how far ahead the top candidate sits from the second. If it is not confident it has the right business it stops, and a person sorts it out before anything is produced. It will not quietly assess the pub down the road and send you the bill.

Can I check more than one property or business?

One business per Health Check. If you run several properties or brands, each needs its own, because each has its own Google profile, its own reviews and its own AI visibility.

Will you help me fix what you find?

Every finding comes with written instructions. If you want help implementing, add a coaching session or look at the GEO Assessment.

Can I re-run it later to see if I improved?

Yes, and this is where the repeatable score earns its keep. Fix the top three, run it again, and you get a genuine before and after on the same measure. Many operators do this at six-month intervals.

Is my report public?

No. It is a private link. Only you and whoever you send it to can open it.

I already had a Digital Engagement Health Check. Should I do this one?

Yes. The old health check assessed how your digital presence performed for people. This assesses how it performs for the AI systems that now sit between you and those people. Around a third of the checks did not exist when your last one was run.

Know what to fix, and have the words to fix it.

Right now an AI is answering questions about your region for people who have never heard of you, and it is naming somebody. Two fields and a few hours from now you will have every opportunity we found, ranked, each one written up with a prompt you can paste straight into ChatGPT.

Same day delivery. Money back if it does not help your business.
