Tourism Tribe wasn't born yet but it made it in the top 12 of the World Tourism Forum innovation award. Read how we did it.

When Australian digital experts Fabienne Wintle and Liz Ward were in the throes of researching and brainstorming concepts for their new business venture, they weren’t prepared for the mad rush and all-nighters they would have to pull to submit their submission for the Innovation prize in the World Tourism Forum (WTF) Awards. The effort was worth it though, because they were placed in the top 12 applications for Tourism Tribe, the industry’s new online learning hub, amongst a global field of innovative start ups.

“Whilst we were brainstorming product concepts for our new business Digital Coaching International, we came across the WTF innovation competition and thought we should have a crack at that, but the deadline was only a couple of weeks out. Whilst it was a rapid and steep workload to pull the submission together it was really beneficial, because we were forced to make quick decisions on our product, market, business plans and commercial model and now we can hit the ground running”, said Fabienne, Digital Coaching International’s CIO.

TourismTribe.com scored highly against the WTF competition criteria as it uniquely combines support, digital coaching and 64 online tutorials so that people who are in the business of tourism can access knowledge and support online and can share their learnings and experience, in one place. Most importantly, it addresses the growing gap between how travellers use technology in such an engaged manner, yet small businesses, of which there are many thousand in tourism, are falling behind and not making the most of the online world.

“One of the great things about taking out a place in this global competition was that it validated our concept and plans for Tourism Tribe, which gave us confidence when launching the platform over June and July. We knew the research was telling us that the need for a different approach to digital training in regions across the world was urgent, but having a stamp of approval from the World Tourism Forum was a significant boost to our small team”, said Liz, Managing Director of Digital Coaching International.

Tourism Tribe is open to the world for people who like to learn, teach and share.
