Tell us something quirky or memorable about you, your customers or your business

Yering Gorge Cottages provides an idyllic setting within an hour of Melbourne – perfect for nature lovers and those wanting to escape the city and completely relax. Surrounded by birds and wildlife, kangaroos roam freely throughout the property; guests might find a cockatoo landing on their railing as they start-up the barbeque or have a wombat join them on their morning walk along the river. Our guests always depart wishing they’d stayed an extra night or two.

What a wonderful place! Gorgeous clubhouse to check in, with many amenities, although we spent most of our time at the cottage. Wonderful hiking trails, saw a wild echidna and too many kangaroos to count. We had several kangaroo moms with joeys in their pouches having breakfast right next to our windows. It was a special treat. Rooms was huge, and spotless, with some luxury touches. Excellent food via hampers brought to the room - we did the deluxe breakfast and bbq hampers - outstanding. If I lived in Melbourne, this would be my go-to place for quiet & total relaxation. Definitely stay here.

What is a thing you love about your business?

We love what we do, and most of all, we love the joy and excitement on the faces of our guests as they discover the incredible beauty of our natural surrounds that will be their sanctuary for a night or two. We love seeing our International guests mesmerised by the abundance of native wildlife in their natural surrounds; we love hearing that our guests have been able to unwind within the serenity that our property provides; we love seeing our guests start the next chapter of their life together as they say ‘I do’ against the backdrop of the Christmas Hills in front of family and friends who have travelled from across the globe and we take special joy when our guests are so excited to have an authentic Aussie BBQ on their private deck. We are truly blessed to do what we do!

What is the company background?

Yering Gorge Cottages opened in 2007 and was built by the original owner, Ross Stevens, who wanted to provide an immersive accommodation experience that showcased the exceptional flora and fauna that Yering Gorge offered. With its acquisition of Yering Gorge Cottages in July, 2013, The Eastern Golf Club recognised that the exceptional nature-based tourism experiences were a key influence in guests’ decision to stay and wanted to ensure the integrity of the destination experience was retained. Whilst creating a unique destination and tourism experience within the Yarra Valley, Yering Gorge Cottages remains a stand-alone tourism experience whilst providing guests with access to an extensive selection of additional facilities including golf, tennis and full use of the Clubhouse.

What is your ultimate vision for your business?

Our ultimate vision is to ensure we keep provided memorable experiences for our guests; whilst ensuring a range of initiatives are implemented to minimise the precinct’s environmental impact and to ensure the long term sustainability of the pristine environment we are located within. Our custodial responsibility of the 600 hectares of private nature reserve, wetland ponds and three kilometres of the Yarra River is not taken lightly and we want to ensure our spectacular eco-system will be enjoyed by generations to come.
