Benalla is home to the renowned Benalla Art Gallery, high speed action at the Winton Motor Raceway, street art, silo art, the nationally significant Winton Wetlands, events, cafes and so much more. Benalla – ‘See the art in everything’.
Who are the people behind your business
Benalla Rural City Council are the funding body for the VIC, as without financial assistance and support we wouldn’t be able to operate.
The VIC has a team of 23 passionate volunteers who assist with all visitor enquiries and are lead by councils Tourism Coordinator.
Having such a passionate and dedicated team, means our visitors are getting the information they need and great customer service.

For our team its been a very exciting time to see tourism grow for our region. With both the street art and silo art in our region, it has been fantastic to see increased visitation through both the VIC and our rural villages. It has been great to witness the community adapt to changes with the increase in visitation.
I enjoy volunteering at the Benalla Visitor Information Centre because I enjoying selling Benalla, encouraging people to spend more time here, dynamic fun team of like-minded people, contributing to a community that I love and it stimulates my brain. What is a thing you love about your business?
Meeting visitors from all over Australia and hearing what they want to experience whilst they are here. This could be visiting the Benalla Art Gallery, a walk around Lake Benalla or even looking for accommodation. The more we can assist and showcase our region the more you realise you love everything that you do.
Our team is the face of our region and love welcoming our visitors from both near and far, its an even better feeling when they revisit and pop in and say G’day. What makes it all worthwhile is having a passionate team who love where they live, love what they do and the region they support makes coming in the VIC a reason to get up each morning.
What is the company background?
Benalla Visitor Information Centre has been operational since October 28 1991, when it was managed by the then Creators Gallery. Benalla Rural City Council has been running the centre in 2008. The VIC also shares the building with the Benalla Historical Society/Benalla Costume and Kelly Museum.
What is your ultimate vision for your business?
Our legacy would be, to be known as a visitor centre that is progressive, able to adapt to change and also to support the community by giving back through volunteering.
We also want to look back and say ‘We help shaped tourism for our region’.
