Who are the people behind your business

We are a small and professional team consisting of the owners Michael and Sue Minshall, myself Jordan Wood and my partner Cindy Goulet who are responsible for the management and operations of Alkina Lodge.

Tell us something quirky or memorable about you, your customers or your business

We love to personally show all of our guests around their lodge upon check-in. The most memorable greeting that I can recall was a charming British couple. While admiring our local kangaroo population, a resident male roo felt it was time to embrace his romantic side, focusing his attention towards one of the female roo’s casually grazing. To the great surprise of our guests viewing the show, which was not completely “G” rated, the lady responded. “wow, we were expecting wildlife, but not a David Attenborough show. how lovely”.

Beautiful, clean, perfect! First time in Australia. First night. We arrived at sunset. 3 kangaroos waiting in front of the lodge. In the back they were 20! We slept with a view of the stars. I woke up with a kangaroo outside the window. A real home in a magical place. TLTonnby wrote a review May 2019 Geneva, Switzerland

What is a thing you love about your business?

We are very privileged to live in such a beautiful part of Australia, the best thing about running a luxury tourism accommodation is being able to share with our guests the rugged beauty and native wildlife of South Western Victoria and hearing how much they have enjoyed their experience.

What is the company background?

A neglected development was the start of a vision. Inspired by the architect Glenn Murcutt, a winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and the extraordinary design of the lodges, ignited the current owners, Michael and Sue Minshall’s interest in the property. As experienced overseas travellers, the Minshall’s search for places that are well designed and offer authentic experiences. They felt this property had significant architectural intention and a story to tell and purchased the 3 lodges and 100 acres of land in 2014. At the end of 2015 Jordan and Cindy were contracted to make the vision a reality. 4 years later we take great pride in what we have built together.

What is your ultimate vision for your business?

Our vision is to create immersive experiences for our guests, showcasing that high end luxury can also be sustainable and leave the land we call home better than when we arrived.
