Tin Dragon Trail Cottages is a private 36 acre alpaca farm in north east Tasmania. Six cottages built using locally-sourced materials create a peaceful spa retreat overlooking the Ringarooma River. Graham and Christine offer friendly, thoughtful hospitality and embrace the principles of eco-tourism. Energy self-sufficiency (micro hydro, solar PV and Tesla batteries), waste water recycling system, provision of fresh rain water and an organic vegetable garden add to their guests’ experience.

Tell us something quirky or memorable about you, your team, your customer or your business
Graham and Christine encourage their guests to "escape to nature". But the other day when they were farewelling their guests, nature made a grand entrance in the form of a rogue platypus. Their guests were photographing the little guy when it took fright, running over the feet of one lady before racing into Graham and Christine’s house. After several rounds of the lounge room it departed, racing down the verandah across the garden, down the tail-race of the micro-hydro and into the dam. It then spent several hours calmly messing around in the dam as if nothing had happened.
What’s the favourite thing you love about your business?
We love seeing couples and families having fun together: enjoying our farm, meeting the alpacas and chooks, observing the night-time native wildlife, fishing, BBQ-ing on the river…unwinding, relaxing.
What’s the company background?
Graham and Christine met while bushwalking on the west coast of Tasmania. A few years later they decided to create a tourism business. On their travels they fell in love with the lush green Ringarooma valley in Tasmania’s north east, purchasing a 36 Acre farm nestled in the bend of the river, surrounded by native bush. They took ten years to build the stone cottages which now sit looking out over the river. The former degraded cow paddock has been transformed into a peaceful rural spa retreat, maintained as an alpaca farm and "land for wildlife".
What’s your ultimate vision for Tin Dragon Trail Cottages?
At Tin Dragon Trail Cottages we endeavour to provide friendly, comfortable and ecologically sustainable accommodation so our guests can relax and escape to nature.
A testimonial about Tin Dragon Trail Cottages?
We explored the creek & farm, ate farm fresh eggs. Christine and Graham were very indulgent of the kids many questions…makes travelling with children so easy…so close to nature and only the shortest of drives to the MTB trails..solar/hydro power was just amazing. Well worth asking Graham for a tour.
