Take the Tour Taste the Action… A one-hour tour to entertain and delight any age group. A fascinating mix of history, farming and innovation and a unique demonstration of the magical way that sugar is made, all topped off with a tasting treat – fairy floss for the kiddies, home-made chef’s gusto sauces, ginger beer and a nip of rum, liqueur, schnapps for the adults. It begins with a movie in the theatre; a tour of the outdoor cane plantation and displays, then indoors to see the miniature mill.

Tell us something quirky or memorable about you, your team, your customer or your business
Love sweet and saucy? So do we! Sugar Shed Chef’s Gusto sauces are made for those with a passion for great food and flavours. Hallowed recipes handed down through generations and shared each cottage pottage capturing the unique tastes and characters of north Queensland.
What is the favourite thing you love about your business?
Our authenticity of people, produce and place and delivering on that promise is our commitment. Our volunteers and staff combine to deliver a robust and vibrant attraction, proudly sharing our story with visitors ensuring the history and provenance of the industry lives on. Sugar Shed does not solely focus on tours we have the distillery, gourmet kitchen, wholesale and retail outlets. It has taken a lot more than our shiny still to become sustainable in the tourism industry.
What is the company background
Our communities’ roots are firmly embedded in sugar and alcohol production and there was a need for this story to be told, shared and nurtured. The aim of our attraction is to showcase the culture and heritage of the local sugar and distilling industries along with the incredible qualities of sugar and diversity of use. Whilst some of the commercial sugar mills in the area had operated popular tours in the past, onerous compliances eventually saw them close. Nevertheless, visitors kept asking for a sugar mill and distillery experience – hence our miniature sugar mill/distillery was created
What is your ultimate vision for Sarina Sugar Shed
To grow our region’s reputation as a food destination working with producers, sugar industry and tourism operators in a shared journey to realise our full potential, commitment and passion.
