Tell us something quirky or memorable about you, your team, your customer or your business
Ben & I take pleasure in hearing our guests daily tell of their adventures, ranging from sharing the rise of a new day with the local wildlife and the horizon engulfed in majestic colours, discovering a volcanic rock cave that was formed over 30 million years ago, enticed by the graceful dance of butterflies, spotting one of the 136 bird species, the tall tale of the big one that got away, exploring the tidal island along with its rock pools, trailing the walks with all creatures great and small and watching the moon rise as new life is nested by a mother turtle on the tranquil beach.
What’s the favourite thing you love about your business?
The morning when a family of four came to say their farewells. They had come to our park intending to stay 1 night. Unfortunately, they all fell ill resulting in a 4 night stay but only having their last day to explore; filled with shallow snorkeling around Wedge Island and a special turtle encounter at a small rocky reef off Beach Comber Cove. The Mum left crying as she never expected something so special would result after being ill. This lasting memory is an exceptional gift in its own right.
What’s the company background?
Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park opened for business in 1966 by its original owners Rex & Vi Risley. The park has seen a total of 5 owners. Since 2012 the current owners are Ben & Renae Atherton with their three children aged 12, 11 and 9. The Atherton family made the seaside change from the local township of Sarina, an hour south of Cape Hillsborough. Breathing new life into the then Cape Hillsborough Nature Resort, Ben and Renae wanted to see families, couples and travellers be reinvigorated by the natural beauty and encouraging visitors to reconnect with family, nature and self.
What’s your ultimate vision for Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park?
To embrace the difference within each guest and staff member, positive or negative: you don’t know what has happened in your guests or staffs life a month, that week, the day or even the hour.
