Search engine optimisation (SEO) is one of those things that has been on your list since it was invented, but you never seem to cross it off. It’s elusive, you know you should be doing it, all the cool kids are doing it, but you just can’t seem to get motivated to do it. Why? It seems a lot harder than it actually is and there’s a lot of terminology that people that are doing it throw around. Exactly how do you become an expert on it quickly in three simple steps?

How can I be found more easily on Google?

1. Understand how you get to the top of Google

The top eight ranking factors of Google are:

  • Google +1 (which means likes)
  • Facebook share
  • Number of backlinks
  • Facebook total
  • Facebook comments
  • Facebook likes
  • Pinterest
  • Tweets

You’ll notice the dominance of social media (often called ‘social signals’) in this top eight.

2. Role of Google+

It’s easy to see from the ranking factors, that Google+ is vital to making at the top of Google searches. So, while the platform itself may be seem to be struggling, Google places enormous importance on it when it comes to search. So, start a Google+ account for your business and start sharing.

3. Google business listing

Set up a Google Business listing, by going to https://www.google.com/business/ or read more here.
